A 7-year-old South Carolina girl was shot by a stray shotgun pellet over the weekend, and a father and son are facing charges in the case.
The shooting happened on Saturday at a home in Bluffton, South Carolina, about 8 miles west of Hilton Head Island, the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said in a news release, adding that it was reported as a bullet hitting a car.
Responding deputies interviewed witnesses who reported seeing a white SUV drive into the parking lot and fire at least two shots. A 7-year-old girl outside was hit in the arm with a shotgun pellet as she ran toward her apartment, police said.
The girl's mom took her to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries before authorities arrived on scene.

What led to the shooting?
Police say that two men got into a fight near the apartments less than a half-hour before the shooting. One of the men involved in the fight was standing in front of the apartments when two men drove up and shot at him.
Investigators don't know who the man standing in front of the apartments is but don't believe he was injured in the shooting, which was captured on surveillance video.
Deputies have arrested a father and son in the shooting: Carlos Joaquin Anchorena, 23, and Carlos Isaac Anchorena, 45. Both were charged with assault and battery, unlawful possession of a sawed-off shotgun, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime and aggravated breach of peace.
Their attorneys did not immediately return calls for comment from USA TODAY on Tuesday. They're being held at the Beaufort County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
